(Reuters) – Tesla was sentenced on Friday to pay $ 243 million in damage after being judged partially responsible for a fatal accident in 2019 involving a Model S equipped with its automatic pilot system “Autopilot”.

In April 2019, George McGee, who was driving his 2019 Tesla Model, struck at around 100 km/h a Chevrolet Tahoe parked at an intersection in which Naibel Benavids Leon, who died in the accident and his Dillon Angulo, were injured, which was injured.

The jurors of the Miami Federal Court judged that the driver was largely responsible for the accident and partially tesla.

Tesla will have to pay $ 200 million in punitive and 33% damage to $ 129 million in compensatory damage to the complainants, which claimed $ 345 million in damages.

Tesla, who plans to call, according to press information, has faced many similar proceedings related to “Autopilot” which have been dismissed or paid amicably.

The company based in Austin, Texas, and its lawyers did not respond to requests for comments immediately.
