Milan (Reuters) -European aerospace groups Leonardo, Thales and Airbus could sign an initial agreement to combine their satellite activities this year, said Airbus Defense and Espace Division in an interview on Sunday, confirming information from Reuters.
As part of the “Bromo project”, Leonardo, Thales and Airbus plan to create a satellite manufacturing company to compete with Chinese and American competitors, including Starlink by Elon Musk.
“We are on the right track, but several questions must still be clarified before taking such an important step,” said Michael Schoellhorn, managing director of Airbus Defense and Space, in the Italian daily Il Corriere della will be.
Michael Schoellhorn added that this type operations require a two-step process, including a framework agreement and a phase leading to the effective conclusion of the agreement. “In this case, I think that the signature (of a first agreement) could take place in 2025,” he said.
