2022 is an anniversary year for Opel as the company that makes innovation accessible to all celebrates its 160th anniversary and, at the same time, one of its biggest sellers celebrates its 40th birthday.
It all started with the Opel Kadett. A small car that was invented and designed to make travel accessible to many, at a time when owning and driving a car was considered a real luxury. Then, as the decades went by and as prosperity increased, customers became more selective. In the second half of the 20th century the small Kadett gained larger dimensions and more power, with the arrival of each new version getting closer and closer to the compact class. Thus, a vacancy was created under the classic entry model of the German company.
Therefore, it was time for a new, small car and, in particular, for the Corsa. The small model came out of the production line of the new car factory in Zaragoza for the first time in the autumn of 1982 and immediately began its journey to become a best seller for Opel. To date, 40 years after its launch, more than 14 million Corsas have been built, mainly at the Zaragoza and Eisenach plants.
This success is due, among other things, to the technological innovations brought by the various generations of the Corsa, which until now were only available in higher-end cars.
