The exit sequence General Konstantinos Korka will be held tomorrow at 12pm, at Papagou cemetery with the estimated prices. The ceremony will be a public expense with the care of the Armed Forces, as announced by GEETHA.

It is recalled that the priest and commando general Konstantinos Korkas attended the annual memorial service yesterday of the fallen priests and commandos in Kavouri, Attica, where he laid a wreath at the Hero of LOC. However, immediately after the memorial service, he was transferred to the Asclepieion of Voula, where he died.

General Konstantinos Korkas of Athanasios was born in the village of Poulitsa in Corinth in early 1921. He was admitted to the Military School of Guards (SSE) in 1940 and with his first-year classmates fought in the Battle of Crete in May 1941, with the War Flag of the School.

He then fled to the Middle East, continuing his studies at the BCC where he settled, from which he graduated in 1943 with the rank of lieutenant (PZ).

He was demobilized in 1980 with the rank of lieutenant general and with the title of “Honorary Commander of the 1st Army”.

During his 40-year career in the Greek Army, he served as an officer in NATO Headquarters, as a follower of the Bucharest-Budapest Armed Forces (1968-70), as First Deputy Chief of Staff (1977), as Inspector General of the Army (1979-80). while he was commander:

– The 14th Mountain Expeditionary Battalion (1947 – 49).
– Of the 3rd Amphibious Squadron (1954 – 55).
– The 3rd Infantry Regiment “Rimini” (1971 – 72).
– Of the XI (11th) Infantry Division (1973 – 74).
– Of the 2nd Army Corps (1974-1976).
– The Fourth Army Corps (1976), of which he was the first commander
– Of the 1st Army.

The deceased took part in military operations of Crete (1941), North Africa (1942-43), the Aegean islands and the Dodecanese (1943-45), as well as the operations of the Civil War (1947-49), where he was wounded twice.

He studied at the Infantry Weapon Training Schools and Centers, at the Middle East Parachute School, at the British and US Infantry Schools, at the US School of Command and Staff, at the Higher School of War and at the School of National Defense.

For his participation in the aforementioned military operations, Konstantinos Korkas was honored with the following moral rewards:

a. With the promotion of “Epi Andragathia on the Battlefield”.
b. With the Golden Cross of the Phoenix after Swords.
c. With the Golden Cross of the Royal Order of George I.
d. With the Cross of the Brigadiers of the Royal Order of Phoenix.
e. With the Cross of the Brigadiers of the Order of George I.
f. Six times with the Golden Excellence of Andreas.
g. With the War Cross of the 2nd Class.
h. Seven times with the War Cross of the 3rd Class.
i. Three times with the Medal of Outstanding Deeds.
j. With the Medal of Military Value of 2nd Class
ια. With the Medal of Military Value of the Third Class.
ιβ. With the Memorial War Medal 1940 – 41.
m. With the Commemorative War Medal 1941 – 45
n. With the British Medal of Andreas 1944.
o. With the Highest Medal of National Value of France.

It is worth noting that as the 1st Deputy Chief of General Staff and GEPS, he proposed the transfer of the ashes of the late founder of the “Holy Corps”, Colonel Christodoulou Tsigante from England where he died and was buried, in Greece where he was placed in the Monument of the Holy Corps, which has been erected in Pedion tou Areos.
