A 22-year-old man returned to prison, after being sentenced by the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki to a total of 8 years and 8 months, for a bloody incident that took place last July, in a cafe-bar in Pefkochori, Halkidiki, with a 20-year-old victim.

The Court unanimously found him guilty of grievous bodily harm, when converting the indictment from attempted murder, while did not grant him mitigation and decided that the appeal should not have suspensory effect on the execution of the sentence.

In the same case, a 30-year-old man was sentenced to 5 years in prison and immediately found guilty of direct complicity in the grievous bodily harm and released before the Court of Appeals, while the Court unanimously acquitted a 35-year-old man who became a simple accomplice.

The cause of the fight seems to have been a misunderstanding on a personal issue, as testified by the 20-year-old victim who, according to the case file, suffered a penetrating wound to the leg after being shot.

All the accused are of Albanian origin and have denied the charges against them. It is characteristic that the 22-year-old, who was punished with the higher sentence, in his apology spoke about a fight during which he disarmed the victim and then shot for intimidation. He had been involved in a similar incident before, for which he was convicted in the first instance.
