THE collision of a car with a parked vehicle is the most common accident while driving in the city. The 29% of accidents noted fall into this category, resulting in minor damage and scratches between the vehicles involved.

One in four accidents occurs in the back of the car. This is mainly the result of distraction, which usually results from the use of a mobile phone. Non-compliance with distances is another cause of accidents for 20% of incidents, while 13% have the main cause of non-compliance with prohibitions. According to the research data of the insurance company HellasDirect that came from events that occurred in the period January – December 2021, 9% of the accidents are related to the change of lane, while the 2% cause an accident after violating the “Stop” signal. The same percentage (2%) is the cause of an accident for cars coming from the opposite direction (frontal collision).

25.2% of accidents occur at noon, from 12:00 to 15:00, ie during peak hours and when many return home. The accidents that occur in the morning are increased (9: 00-12: 00- 20.8%), as well as the three-hour period 15: 00-18: 00, where 19.9% ​​of the total accidents occur. According to the data, 16.4% of accidents occur from 18: 00-21: 00 and 6% from 21: 00-00: 00, while we should not omit that 2% of accidents occur from midnight until 3:00 in the morning.

Monday is the worst day for accidents, with 17.5%, followed by Wednesday (16.9%), Tuesday (16.3%) and Friday (16.2%). A little further back in the table of days where most accidents occur is Thursday with 16%, Saturday with 10.6% and Sunday with 6.6%.

Finally, the worst month for car accidents is December where most are recorded, while behind are June, July, September and October. On the contrary, the fewest accidents occur in March.
