After two years of interruption due to the pandemic, São Paulo once again hosts the Smorgasburg festival, a famous street food fair in New York. The event will be held on July 23 and 24, at the Obelisk of Ibirapuera Park, with free admission.
There will be 100 food exhibitors, in addition to music stages. Unlike 2019, when it first happened, this time entry will be controlled. Interested parties must register in advance on the festival website. The expectation is to receive 50 thousand people per day.
According to Rogério Oliveira, from the Pipoca collective, responsible for the fair, items that were very successful in the first edition are guaranteed, such as the ramen burguer, a sandwich that takes noodles instead of bread, by Vinil Burguer. “It was the biggest fever of the festival, with the biggest queues, and we will repeat it”, he says.
Pipoca is also talking to other municipalities to take smaller editions of Smorgasburg to other Brazilian capitals such as Belo Horizonte and Olinda. The collective is also responsible for expanding the festival to other countries. Next year, the festival should be held for the first time in Lisbon.
It was in the Williamsburg neighborhood of New York that the fair was born, named after a hybrid of smorgasbord, which means “wide variety of dishes”, in English, and the name of the place where it was born.
