Full Glass: Beers for the winter include coffee, chocolate and more; check out

by

For winter days that look like winter (not all), some beers were tailor-made to warm the palate and comfort the brewer’s soul.

Coffee and chocolate are the main ingredients of the suggestions below, but there are also the traditional bock (or the more potent doppelbock version) and even a tip imported from the great Trappist La Trappe. Check out.

Bock 22 – Track

The style that has become synonymous with winter gets a new seasonal batch on the Trail. The brewery repeats the great formula of the Bock 21 version, which brings hops with more herbal notes to balance the malt sweetness. The beer, with 7.1% alcohol, is available from Wednesday (29).

Ephemeral Imperial Sour – Gift

After the good acceptance with the two 2020 copies, Dádiva launches two more versions of the Ephemeral line, both with a texture similar to a smoothie and vanilla in the formula. The first, with a blue can, brings cocoa, blueberry and blackberry, fruits added during maturation that give light acidity (balanced with vanilla), in the glass it looks almost like an açaí; the second, in the yellow can, with peach and mango, looks like a mango smoothie. Both have 10% alcohol.

Gimme Chocolate – Gift

Think of that super chocolate cake, with creamy filling, vanilla in the dough and semisweet chocolate frosting. Now turn it into beer. Ready: Gimme Chocolate, an imperial stout with vanilla, cocoa and lactose, slightly liqueur, with 10% alcohol. It pairs well with chocolate cake or brownie. Suggested price of R$ 33.90 (473 ml can).

Imperial Baltic Porter – Grandparents Beer

Another great variation of the Baltic Porter created by Jr. Bottura, this very special recipe adds Catucaí 24/137 coffee, from Um Coffee Co., grown in the mountains of Espírito Santo and cold infused for 18 hours. With a high body and potent 10.5% alcohol content, the beer comes in a very limited version, with numbered 330 ml bottles, for R$ 99.

KofKof – Trail

The combination of coffee and beer is once again very well represented in this coffee stout with 7% alcohol content that arrives in a double dose, with two copies combined with different beans from Um Coffee Co. (looks at them again): Red Catuaí adds an aroma of wild fruits; more chocoholics may prefer Mundo Novo. Both cost R$26 at the official store of the Perdizes brewery.

Red Ale – Patagonia/Campos do Jordão

Tankator – Tank Brewpub

One of the best brewpubs in São Paulo, Tank, in Pinheiros, launches its first doppelbock. With 7.5% alcohol, the beer has a brown color and caramel notes, with low bitterness. Beer is attached to the bar, but can be taken home in crowlers (can) and growlers (bottle).

Practice What You Preach – La Trappe/Brewdog

To top it off, an imported suggestion: the great Dutch Trappist brewery La Trappe joins the equally traditional Scottish Brewdog in this excellent limited edition, available in a few bars, with the title “practice what you preach”. Brewed at the La Trappe monastery in 2021, the beer is based on the well-known quadrupel, enhanced with American hops and Scottish heather honey. With a dark color, half ruby, it has 10% alcohol. Unmissable.
