No boats entered Greek territorial waters and all the passengers were picked up by Turkish coastguards
Twenty-four incidents, in which boats with about one thousand one hundred and thirty foreigners attempted to enter Greek territorial waters, were recorded from the morning hours of 24/6 until the morning hours of 27/6 in the sea areas of Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Kos and Rhodes. It is noted that, in Lesvos alone, seven hundred and forty five (745) foreigners attempted to enter Greek territorial waters in sixteen (16) incidents.
In all the above incidents, Offshore Ships, as well as patrol boats of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard were present in the maritime field of incident development and took over the management of the incidents.
After their timely detection, none of the above boats entered Greek territorial waters and all the foreign passengers were collected by Turkish coasters.
According to the Coast Guard, “Once again that the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard, in the framework of the implemented national measures to address the migratory pressure, takes all appropriate measures for the effective surveillance and protection of the maritime borders of Greece and the European Union with determination, respect in international law, having as its primary concern the protection of human life at sea which is the highest professional and moral obligation of LS-EL.AKT “.
