Full Cup: Amstel promotes action against racism in Libertadores games

by

Official beer of the Copa Libertadores, Amstel decided to position itself in the fight against racism and promotes an action that begins this Tuesday (28), day of the beginning of the acute phase of the tournament, with the first matches of the round of 16.

Alongside the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football, the brand created the Make Noise Against Racism movement. The action calls on fans, players, former athletes and opinion makers not to be silent when witnessing a racist act.

The Observatory and the Primeira Pele Preta Project developed an official page called Noise against Racism (link here), which brings the Anti-Racism in Sport Manual and offers psychological and legal assistance to victims of racism.

The brewery will also use its advertising boards in the field to spread the campaign.

“We joined the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football with the aim of creating more and more dialogue on this topic and supporting this organization that shares our values and works to build a more inclusive and respectful football”, says Vanessa Brandão, director of marketing in the Heineken group, which houses Amstel in its portfolio.

“We cannot accept that more cases continue to happen, and, therefore, we need to break the silence and make noise. Going beyond complaints, the partnership with Amstel will serve for us to dialogue, provide legal and psychological advice to victims”, he says. Marcello Carvalho, director of the Observatory.

Cases of racism have increased in the tournament in recent years against Brazilian teams, which, coincidentally or not, have won the last three editions of the competition – including the last two finals won by Palmeiras against rivals from the country.

In this edition alone, six reports of racist acts against Brazilian teams have already been registered, according to the Observatory website, including in the two clashes between Corinthians and Boca Juniors, a duel that is repeated at this stage.
