A new olive grove in the Municipality of Egaleo

The municipality of Egaleo now undertakes the creation and maintenance of this olive grove, as well as the promotion of environmental values ​​in the area and especially to young people.

A new olive grove is being born in Egaleo, as a result of the cooperation of the municipality with the Center for Energy Policy and Development of the University of Athens, but also its participation in a UN international initiative for planting trees, aimed at Clean Energy and the Environment.

In this context, 100 olive trees were planted at the entrance of the city on the side of Thivon Street. In fact, this planting of olive trees, which are a donation, took place at a place designated as a historic area of ​​ancient Eleonas west of the river Kifissos.

The municipality now undertakes the creation and maintenance of this olive grove, as well as the promotion of environmental values ​​in the area and especially to young people.

“Improving the environment is our priority and that is why we are now participating in the UN international initiative, re-creating a part of the ancient historic olive grove located in Egaleo”, stressed during the planting process the mayor Giannis Gikas and added: “The services green of our municipality took care of the planting and undertake the maintenance of the project, which is the continuation of the ancient traditional olive grove of the area. Congratulations on this action of the Energy Policy Center of EKPA and Professor Mavrakis, for the whole coordination of this project in Greece and we are moving forward to further cooperation “.

For his part, the Deputy Mayor of Green and Environment Panagiotis Mandraflis, said: “As an administration, together with the services we are creating a new green space at the entrance of Egaleo, to help improve the environment. This new olive grove deserves our attention, so that it develops for the benefit of all the inhabitants “.
