The Fire Department is on alert – Increased patrols and a ban on entering national parks and forests

As he pointed out, during emergency notification the deputy representative of the Fire Brigade, fire chief Raphaela Jima, air surveillance patrols will be increased as well as patrols by fire, police and military forces, while in areas of increased risk, entry into national parks and forests is prohibited. Ms Jima said that tomorrow will be the first very difficult day of the fire season and added that we are now in the heart of the fire season.

Where a very high risk of fire is predicted – Recommendations of the Public Safety Authority and the Fire Service to citizens

According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, a very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is predicted for tomorrow Sunday for the following areas:

* North Aegean Region (Lesvos Region, Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region)

* Region of Attica (including the island of Kythira)

* Region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, PE Evia)

* Region of Peloponnese

* Region of Western Greece (Ilia, Achaia)

At the same time, in its announcement, the Fire Brigade points out that for the regional Units: Attica, Evia, Boeotia, Corinthia, Argolis, Arcadia, Achaia, Ilia, Messinia, Laconia and the islands of Samos, Ikaria, Chios, Psara, Mytilene and Kythira, it is implemented the 2nd stage of operational readiness of the PS and aerial surveillance patrols will be carried out, as well as patrols by Fire, Police and Military forces.

In addition, the personnel of the Fire Services of the specific regional Units are put on partial alert, in order to deal with the increased service demands, which may arise due to a very high risk of fire (risk category 4).

At the same time, the Plan of Civil Protection actions to deal with risks due to forest fires is implemented, according to which, among other things, the implementation of the measure of the preventive ban on vehicle traffic and the stay of excursionists in national forests, forests and “vulnerable” regions.

At the same time, recommendations to citizens to be especially careful and to avoid actions in the open air that can cause a fire by negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, the use of machines that cause sparks such as circular saws, welding devices, the use of outdoor grills, smoking bees, throwing lit cigarettes, the general secretariat of Civil Protection addresses. Also, the General Directorate of Fire Protection reminds that during the fire protection season it is prohibited to burn fields, while it calls on citizens in the event of a fire, to immediately notify the Fire Service by dialing 199.

For its part, the Fire Brigade appeals to the citizens:

1. Be especially careful and avoid any activity that could cause a fire.

2. To monitor forest fire prevention information available on the website and official accounts of the Fire Service, Facebook and Twitter.

3. In the event that they notice a fire, they should immediately notify the Fire Service by dialing 199.

Finally, the PS appeals to the citizens to be especially careful and in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to faithfully follow the instructions of the competent authorities.
