The situation will improve in the late afternoon, according to the Observatory
The pyrometeorological conditions are particularly favorables for the spread of the fire of the forest fire that occurred at noon and is ongoing in the area of Porto Germeno in Western Attica, as stated in a statement by meteo. The smoke of the fire is also visible from the cameras of the National Observatory of Athens (EAA)/meteo.gr in Penteli.

In the wider area, based on the network of automatic weather stations operated by EAA/meteo.gr, winds blow from the N/BNE with average intensities of 3-4 Beaufort, the temperature approaches 28-30 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity is low (15-20%). Overall, fire-meteorological conditions are particularly favorable for fire propagation, with the moisture content of dead forest fuel estimated at 8%.
Additionally, the wind direction is such that it maximizes the potential for unpredictable and rapid fire spread, as the winds blow almost perpendicular to the Mt. Pateras massif.
Based on the latest available forecast data from the EAA/meteo.gr pyrometeorological unit FLAME, the pyrometeorological conditions in the area will remain unfavorable until the late afternoon (18:00-19:00), when they are expected to gradually improve. This improvement will be characterized by the gradual abatement of strong winds of 2-3 Beaufort intensities and the recovery of the moisture of dead forest fuel to levels above 10%, elements that are expected to help the difficult task of controlling the fire.
