The extreme provocation by Bakhtseli with the map depicting Crete as part of Turkey “struck” the hearts of the Cretans.
“Struck” their hearts and minds Cretans the extreme manual challenge Bahceli with the map which portrays Crete as part of Turkey and provoked the harsh intervention of Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis as well.
“Come only for treats!!! Because otherwise…”are the comments that one records in homes, cafes, shops and groups in Crete, after the unprecedented provocation that Tayyip Erdogan’s government partner has reserved against our country and especially against our island.
A unprecedented challengewhich even provoked the angry reaction of the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself, who, personally addressing the Turkish president, called on him to take a position on the Itama movement Bakhtseli, raising the question whether it is the delusion of extremists or official policy of Turkey.
And if for the inhabitants of the islands of the eastern Aegean this is not the first time they see their islands, houses and lands appearing as Turkish, the challenge of Bahtseli and “Grey Wolves” it certainly caused a strong shock in the minds, hearts and emotions of ordinary Cretans.
This is the first time that the Cretans are faced with such an extreme challenge, namely that the whole of Crete is presented on maps as Turkish territory! Which, the fifth largest island of the Mediterranean, the Crete of long bloody struggles for its liberation, 109 years since its incorporation into the national body of Greece, as one of the key components of our homeland, a cornerstone of Greek National Sovereignty throughout the Southeast Mediterranean.
Crete and the Cretans know firsthand, every time they encountered, in their expansionist policy, whether modern Turkey as a descendant, said the Ottoman Empire of the past, how much it cost them in heavy losses of human resources, resistance and liberation struggles, not only of Crete, but also of the territories of our Macedonia and Thrace. The Cretans were, after all, the only ones who brutally killed Turkey, in the shame of the Cyprus tragedy, with the betrayal, the invasion and the possession of 40% of the martyred Megalonis. The invincible Cretans, that was the only thing that spoiled the “invasion-walk” in Cyprus, and Turkey never got over that.
And as expected, we had spontaneous, angry reactions and highly scathing comments.
Not to mention the angry phone calls received by “NK” from our ordinary fellow citizens, which basically had the same message as a common recommendation: “We Cretans are hospitable and peaceful people. We love and embrace all people, all peoples. We are ready to open the door, our arms to everyone and enjoy the company of tsikoudies and Cretan delicacies. But there is also a limit. Whoever does not mean to come for rackets, but has other ulterior plans, and does not respect but brutally insults our labors, sacrifices and struggles to throw off the yoke of slavery and become a part of our country, beware of”.
In fact, there were two urges that we received from our angry fellow citizens: One, to symbolically show a mental hospital in Istanbul for those who are ultimately “gray extreme and obsessive” in Turkey and have such extreme visions and devise sick plans against our island. And the other, to show the correct maps of the case, the maps that have been characterized as the nightmare for the Turkish establishment and the Turkish elite.
One such is the map that comes from an in-depth study by Professor Ioannis Mazis and Dr. Georgios-Alexandros Sgouros and captures the self-evident thing that Ankara stubbornly denies: the Exclusive Economic Zones, based on straight baselines, the 12 nautical mile Eyalitis Zone, as all derive from the Convention on the Law of the Sea and the International Right, which the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean are entitled to!
The said map of Mr. Mazi and Sgourou is, after all, the best answer to the outrageously obsessive map with Crete and the islands of the eastern Aegean in Turkish, which the nationalist organization gave to the head of the far-right Nationalist Action Party (MIR) and government partner of Turkish President Devlet Bahtceli. Grey Wolves”.
We remind you that Bakhtseli is effectively the leader of this organization as well, while he visited the headquarters of the “Grey Wolves” and had a meeting with their executives.
The intervention of Mitsotakis
The unprecedented challenge by Bahtceli It should be noted that the Greek Prime Minister did not ignore it.
24 hours after the response of Athens, where and according to diplomatic sources the map is characterized as an “aggressive act”, Kyriakos Mitsotakis called, through his post, the Turkish president to clarify whether it is the imagination of extremist circles or Ankara’s official position.
Mr. Mitsotakis in his message on Twitter posted the photo with the map given by the “Grey Wolves” to Devlet Bakhtseli, listing the Aegean islands and Crete that have been designated as Turkish territory.
In fact, he called on Recep Tayyip Erdogan to immediately respond to the “ridiculousness”, as he described them, of his government partner.
“Take a good look at this map. Crete, Rhodes, Lesbos, Chios and Samos are “consumed” by Turkey. Extremists’ delusion or Turkey’s official policy? Another challenge or a true goal? President Erdogan must make his position clear regarding the latest antics of his partner in the government coalition,” says Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his Twitter post, which is also in English, apparently wanting to give an international ” aroma” to this new Turkish provocation against our country.
It is recalled that yesterday’s post by Mitsotakis was preceded on Sunday by a reaction from Athens, which spoke of a “particularly aggressive, provocative and reprehensible action”.
Turkish site: “3/4 of Crete belongs to us”!
In the maze of challenges, it came to be added on Monday, July 11, and the anecdotal propaganda against Greece from the Turkish network TR Haber, which defiantly claims that 3/4 of Crete belongs to Turkey and that only Chania is Greek.
The website hosts the views of the former secretary general of the Ministry of Defense, retired officer and geopolitical-military analyst Yumit Yalim, who first formulated the story about… “illegal” occupation of 3/4 of Crete by Greece.
