Vets had to perform CPR on the unconscious elephant.
Veterinarians and workers at a wildlife park in Thailand they fought to save one baby elephant and its mothereven using an elevator and performing CPR on the unconscious elephant.
The rescue took place in torrential rain in central Thailand’s Nakhon Nayok province. The little one, aged 1, had fallen into a drainage ditch, on the side of a road. His distraught mother was standing guard next to him, according to park workers, but she passed out after being sedated.
Rescuers used a lifting machine mounted on a semi-truck to remove the mother and then three people climbed on top of her and performed CPR. At the same time, a digger was clearing the way for the baby elephant to climb through the slippery mud and out of the hole.
The cub began to nurse its mother, who soon regained consciousness, and then they both returned to the jungle.
