The post:
I have lived through three fires in Drafi to date. The worst in terms of winds was yesterday.
The fire was extinguished within 13 hours. Of which 9 were at night, meaning there was no air support. To me this is unbelievable.
A few hours after the fire had passed, and the ground was still smoking, I counted at least 10 crews repairing electrical faults. The posts in the draft are wooden so half of them would have fallen to the floor if they hadn’t been completely burnt with the cables trailing across the street. Trucks with concrete pillars, cranes unloading pillars and materials and 3-4 people per pillar work non-stop all day. What I see In terms of organization and speed is unreal for this country.
All of us have complaints in this country about the state and coordination and management and so on. I don’t know if there was perfect coordination and flawless management, but the result is extremely impressive.
Returning home yesterday, the fire was still steaming. Opposite my house at some point there was a resurgence and a plot of land which was between three other houses was torched. Because the plot had 3-4 pine trees, the fires reached 10 meters. Further on was a fire station but the intensity of the fire was prohibitive for him to approach. I was thinking that now that it’s gone out, two or three houses will burn and I was watching in horror. Not 3-4 minutes had passed and the first helicopter appeared and dropped water. It didn’t have much effect because the water fell a little further, and I thought it was a shame an opportunity was lost. Before I could finish my thought, a second and a third appeared. The fire went out five minutes after it started, and the fire brigade was finishing its action.
By the standards of Greece, what I saw was incredible! Congratulations
to the people who attempted, If what I saw was the result of coordination congratulations
to whoever coordinated them, kudos
for a job well done!
