White Arrow: Great inconvenience for passengers

Hundreds of passengers were trapped in the train, under conditions of unbearable heat (the air conditioning was not working, due to a power cut) and incredible suffering

Great inconvenience yesterday afternoon for the passengers of the famous “White Arrow”, as yesterday’s last route from Larissa Station to Thessaloniki was canceled due to a breakdown.

It took hours to find out what was going to happen and passengers were furious. No one could tell them if they would stay overnight in Athens, who would cover the expenses, or if the ticket price would be refunded.

The problems with the White Arrow, which can cover the distance Larissa – Athens in 2.5 hours, appeared in the early afternoon.

The train started yesterday at 5:20 from Athens, bound for Larissa and since 6 in the afternoon it has stopped at the station of Dekelia, just outside Athens.

Hundreds of passengers were trapped in the train, under conditions of unbearable heat (the air conditioning was not working, due to a power cut) and incredible suffering. For a long time they have been waiting for an explanation, as no one has informed them what has happened.

In addition, the conventional train of 7.22 p.m., which would also take the passengers of “Velos”, was stopped outside Agioi Anargyros due to a power cut and returned to Larissa Station with the help of a diesel engine.

The suffering did not end especially for the passengers of the “White Arrow”. At some point, a diesel engine towed the train to the Dekelia station arrived at the scene. There they initially told the passengers that another train would pick them up, but then they realized that this would not happen as the other train was the one that had stayed in Agios Anargyros…

THE Hellenic Train stated in a statement that it is not responsible for the passengers’ suffering, since the damage was related to the infrastructure.

The company’s announcement:

“This afternoon a power outage in the infrastructure resulted in serious problems in the traffic of trains moving from Larissa Station to Thessaloniki and Chalkida.

Trains were stopped on the line and a major operation was carried out to return passengers to the Stations.

Most of the passengers have been transferred to their final destination by buses, while within the next hour the transfer of all passengers to their destinations will be completed.

All have been reimbursed for the ticket money they had purchased.

The traffic will gradually normalize as the electricity supply to the network has not yet been restored.

Hellenic Train sincerely apologizes to passengers for this unfortunate event, although the company is not responsible for the reliability of the infrastructure.”
