ELAS: EDE for yesterday’s incidents of police violence in the marches in the center of Athens

The police officers involved were ordered to move from their Services until the investigation is completed

In arrests 4 out of 14 were convertedadditions made during incidents in yesterday’s demonstrationin the center of Athens, while at the same time the chief officer of order measures was injured and taken to the 401 General Military Hospital, according to the ELAS announcement.

At the same time, it was ordered Sworn Administrative Examination for incidents reproduced on the internet regarding disciplinary offenses by police officers against citizens.

In particular, ELAS reports on yesterday’s episodes:

“The Hellenic Police Headquarters announces that a Sworn Administrative Examination has been ordered for incidents that are reproduced on websites and social media for disciplinary offenses against citizens by police officers, during the taking of order measures yesterday (Thursday, July 28, 2022) demonstration in Athens.

At the same time, an order was given to the police officers involved to move from their Services until the completion of the investigation.

Additionally, during the demonstration, 14 people were brought in by the services of the General Police Directorate of Attica, of which 4 were arrested and a case file was filed against them for the specific offenses of resistance, disobedience, disturbance of public peace, simple and dangerous bodily harm , defamation, as well as for violations of weapons legislation.

It is noted that groups of people who participated in the march carried out successive attacks against the police forces with bats – poles, throwing stones, marbles and other objects.

As a result of the attacks, the officer in charge of order measures was initially injured in the leg, who was then thrown to the ground by a group of people, kicking him multiple times all over his body. The officer was transferred to 401 G.S.N.A. where he was diagnosed with trunk and limb injuries.

After the march ended, groups of people caused damage to shops and infrastructure in the city center.

Those arrested are taken to the competent prosecuting authority”.
