University of Patras: School with only 15 students – The departments with vacancies

Licenses will be many positions in departments of the University of Patras, since the first-year students in them are from many to few.

As he explained speaking to thebest.gr the rector, Christos Bouras, “there are four departments that accept a few freshmen. We will work to strengthen them and hope to have more admissions in these departments next year. These are the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Department of Geology, the Department of Theater Studies and the Department of Plant Production.

As Mr. Bouras mentioned, “there is no explanation, but it seems that students prefer schools located in their place, obviously for financial reasons. However, from our side we will see if the minimum admission base needs improvement, while we will take care with various promotional actions in order to make the operation of the departments and especially their advantages known. We will do everything we can so that next year we have more admissions.”

This year in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, while there were 115 vacancies, only 15 were filled.

Also, the Geology department had 19 admissions with 94 available places, while the Theater Studies department with 106 available places, welcomed only 37 students. Finally, 22 students entered the Plant Production department, where there were 104 available positions.

“The main problem of the country is demographic. In 2026 we will have fewer applicants than available positions. The country has far more universities and departments than it needs. So at some point there will be a problem for all Universities” concludes Mr. Bouras.
