Nurses from all the hospital’s clinics came to the whole coordination, emphasizes the hospital’s administrator, Magda Giamoustari
What unfolded at the General Hospital of Komotini during the attendance of 80 people with food poisoning incident which occurred last night in Arriana Rodopis, as it is reported in the context of a religious ceremony (suneti – circumcision).
Fortunately, the incident had a happy ending. Speaking to APE-MPE, the administrator of the hospital, Magda Giamoustari, describes the mass attendance on Sunday evening at the nursing institution of around 180 people and the mobilization of all the staff for the care of the patients.
“From 23:00 to 06:00, 90-100 adults came, of which, due to the mass attendance, 30 received serums, while the exact number of patients is determined by the drugs administered. Adults who did not receive sera were treated with intramuscular injections, antiemetic drugs, and gastroprotection. However, no one was hospitalized, they were all in the intensive care unit and were managed there. In addition to the adults, about 80 children aged from seven months to 15 years attended. In the total of 34 pediatric cases that took sera there was a seven-month-old child as well as a one-year-old child, the rest of the lighter cases remained under observation in the short hospitalization, on stretchers in the hospital premises, six were admitted to pediatrics, two were the most serious and four in hospitality, but by 7:00 in the morning they were all out».
Mrs. Giamoustari attributes the happy outcome of the group food poisoning incident to the timely response and the perfect coordination demonstrated by all the medical and nursing staff.
“I want to emphasize what I experienced. Perfect coordination, timely treatment with an excellent medical and nursing management with unparalleled professionalism. The comparative advantage of the General Hospital of Komotini, a hospital built in 1937, is really its lively potential, to whom I thank and am grateful. You realize that during the whole coordination, nurses came from all the clinics of the hospital, they rushed down to the emergency rooms, they were organized by the on-call coordinator, doctors from outside out of hours, doctors outside their specialty from all the rest of the medical staff who were on duty were called and immediately responded. It was a serious incident which in a short time had a happy ending“, he says, adding that for this spirit of teamwork and cooperation, the staff received congratulations from the Deputy Minister of Health, Mina Gaga.
