Fires: 65 in 24 hours – Very high fire risk on Wednesday – The ‘orange areas’ – See map

The latest reports about the fire in Domoko Fthiotida and Samothraki.

The battle of the fire brigade and the entire state apparatus with the occurrence of fires is a daily one, and in the last 24 hours there were 65 fire fronts throughout the country.

Most were treated immediately, at their initial stage.

In the forest fire that occurred last night in T.K. 52 firefighters with two (2) groups of pedestrians, 16 vehicles, 11 aircraft and three (3) helicopters, including one (1) for aerial coordination, are operating from Petrotos to Domoko Fthiotida. Assistance is provided by volunteer firefighters as well as water tankers and project machinery of the Local Self-Government. Also, 54 firefighters with two (2) groups of pedestrian departments and 21 vehicles from Regions of the country as follows:

  • 10 firefighters with 5 vehicles from Central Macedonia
  • 16 firefighters with one (1) pedestrian section team and 5 vehicles from Western Macedonia,
  • 10 firefighters with 5 vehicles from Epirus and
  • 18 firefighters with one (1) walking division team and 6 vehicles from Thessaly.

The fire that broke out this morning in a forest area in the area of ​​Piges Grias Vathra, Prinos, Samothraki, is under control and 35 firefighters with 3 groups of pedestrian units, including 11 firefighters who traveled by boat from Alexandroupoli as well as four (4) vehicles, are working. Membership from a infantry division of the Hellenic Army consisting of 10 officers as well as volunteer firefighters.
The fire that broke out today at noon in an agroforestry area in the Simiza area of ​​Pinio Ilia has been contained.
The forest fire that broke out today at noon in the Prophet Ilias Zirou area of ​​Preveza was brought under partial control and 25 firefighters with 2 groups of pedestrian sections and 3 vehicles are working, while one (1) helicopter attempted from the air.
Local investigative offices, as well as Divisions of the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) are investigating the causes of the fires.

We remind you that, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr), for tomorrow, Wednesday, August 10, 2022, a very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is predicted for the following areas:

  • Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Evros Region)
  • Region of Attica
  • Region of Central Greece (Evia, Boeotia)
  • Peloponnese Region (Argolida PE, Corinthia PE)
  • North Aegean Region (Chios Region)

Aerial surveillance patrols will be carried out in the above areas, as well as patrols by Fire, Police and Military forces.

In addition, the personnel of the Fire Services of the above Regional Units remain on partial alert, in order to deal with the increased service demands, which may arise due to a very high risk of fire (risk category 4).

At the same time, for the above areas, the Plan of Civil Protection actions to deal with risks due to forest fires remains in place, according to which, among other things, the implementation of the measure of the preventive ban on vehicle traffic and the stay of excursionists in national forests is foreseen, forests and “vulnerable” areas.

In direct cooperation with the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, all the competent government agencies involved, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above regions, have been informed, so that they are on increased readiness to take measures within their competence.

An appeal is addressed to our fellow citizens:

  • Be especially careful and avoid any activity that could cause a fire.
  • To monitor forest fire prevention information available on the website and official accounts of the Fire Service, Facebook and Twitter.
  • In the event that they notice a fire, they should immediately notify the Fire Service by dialing 199.
