At Copper today a rare phenomenon is observed which we recorded. On the Chalkida bridge, an endless “army” of jellyfish crosses the strait, moving from the North Euboean to the South Euboean, carried by the tide.

Their speed is extremely high as the current of the Euripus channel is strong.

Their flow is continuous and we do not know how long the phenomenon will last. Perhaps it is part of the context of the fact that this year there is a large outbreak of jellyfish in the Greek seas.

The jellyfish in question are of the “brown jellyfish” or “fried egg” species commonly known as saloufa, (scientific name: Cotylorhiza tuberculata). It is a species of jellyfish of the genus Cnidaria. It is often found in the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea and the Adriatic Sea. It can reach 40 cm in diameter, but its width is usually less than 17 cm. It appears that the sting of this jellyfish has little or no effect on humans.

However, it can cause allergies in more sensitive people, which usually involve itching and scratching at the site of the bite. The smooth, raised central dome of the hive is surrounded by a gutter-like ring. Its marginal fins are elongated and subrectangular. Each stomata bifurcates near its base and branches several times. In addition to some larger appendages, there are many small, club-shaped ones bearing disc-like ends.
