Remember to look them up.
If you plan to travel to Mykonos, Syros, Paros, Amorgos, Naxos or Sifnos, remember to look for these products.
Mykonos: He knows about sausages, he also knows about kopanists
It is famous for its aromatic village sausages with the fragrant thrombi. Buy a batch and put some in the freezer. In the butchers of Madoupa and Menaya you will also find excellent Mykonian louses. From the two cheese factories of the island you will buy sour cheeses and cheese rolls. Mykonos Cheese Factory also makes kopanista and fantastic yogurt foam, while Mykonos Farmers makes some of the finest Cycladic kopanistas with mixed sheep’s and cow’s milk. Also buy barley samples, the local nuts that Mykonians use to make the famous tomato and kopanisti salad, from Davelaki, the bakery near the airport. From the local brewery Mikonu in Argyraina you will be stocked with some of the most elaborate and delicious beers in the country. Be sure to try the limited edition barrel aged in magnum bottles and Fragos’ko a refreshing pale ale with prickly pear from the island. If you want to take a “serious” honey pie with you, you will pre-order it from cook Irini Zouganelis who is a member of the Mykonos Gastronomy Club.

Syros: It doesn’t only have Turkish delights!
You are not going to leave Syros without loukoumia and halvado pies. And on the ship you will still be “hunted” by the friendly donut sellers with their all-white baskets. For Turkish delights I prefer Sykoutri and Livadaras, and for halvado pies I recommend Korre and Kanakari. Kostas Prekas in his grocery store when he’s in the mood, keeps a batch of Sykoutri’s loukoumias and makes them xeroloukouma. In Preka the grocery store you will find many other local products such as cheeses, the nice Arom jams and the Cycladic drinks of Cyclades Organics, wines from the local wineries, and some goodies of their own production, such as capers, fennel pesto, pastries and pastry jam, noodles with saffron, etc. And at the Topon Gwessi grocery store you will find many Cycladic products, among them excellent organic Syrian kritamo from Ethra Cycladic Farm, sun-dried tomatoes and sweet spoon tomatoes from the farm of Vlamis and Melisyros thyme honey. From Maison de Meze in Ano Syros, get jam with local lemons and organic ginger and sage. Prepare ice packs and keep plenty of space in your luggage for the famous cinnamon-colored Syrian louse and maratholosauganikas from the butchers of Salibaki and Roussounelou, but also for San Michalis and gravies of Tyrosira and Josephino.

Sifnos: Ah, those macaroons!
Stop in Artemonas for Theodoros’ almonds. I personally recommend getting one of everything, and definitely a can of pot macaroons, one of oven macaroons, and definitely at least one bag of thespeses no-fuss almond cookies. From the organic farm Narlis Sifnos Farm in Kato Petali stock up on micro-seeded chickpeas, myzithra, tomatoes, courgettes, white and red onions and some honey aubergines. For your Sifne cooking, back home, you will need the famous ceramic utensils. Dozens of small noteworthy workshops exist on the island. Famous is Sifnos Stoneware, and with a very fresh and creative look is the workshop of the ceramist Tszanni Tzanni. With the characteristic aroma of the lees (wine dregs) and its spicy taste, the rolled manoura, as well as the cooler and softer agyloted chloromanoura, made at Agroktima Tsikali are wonderful.

Paros: Did you know that it produces mangoes, papayas and bananas?
You will go to the wood-fired oven in Ysterni for the excellent breads with basil sourdough and local dukoko wheat, while in the Traditional bakery of Agairia you will find the most beautiful local barley loaves, the so-called kouloures. Olives, kritama, aromatic herbs, fresh seasonal vegetables, and from melons and watermelons, to bananas and papayas in their season you will find to buy at the organic Farm Kamaranthos in Kamari every Friday morning. Thyme honey from Ek Paktia is one of the products that you should definitely take with you. Take and try cheeses from Parion, of Katerina Moschou, which produces kefalotyri, anthotyro, mizithra and a very remarkable sour cheese. Put in your suitcases a can of sugar baklava, which is something like baklava uncovered. One of the best on the island is from Hamilothoris confectionery. In the Bioshop store, around the beginning of August, you will find the very limited production of Paros organic mangoes. They are worth seeking out. Finally, don’t leave without a bottle of Parian wine. The Moraiti and Asteras wineries, which can also be visited, do a very good job.

Amorgos: From here you will leave with flavors-booty
Among the edible souvenirs of Amorgos, the fava bean (also known as katsuni) is a PGI and it is no accident. The delicious fruit is available from various growers on the island and you can also find it at the Kelari grocery store. The goat and sheep male of the local cheese makers and breeders, the melipasto, the sheep graviera, the myzithra and the xinomyzithra are rare tastes, spoils that describe the place, and you can find them in the Beppis supermarket. Stock up on sage and argania (wild oregano of Amorgos) from local rock gardens under the Aegean Herbs brand. One of the finest thyme honeys of the Cyclades is produced here. Amorgiano by Panagiotis Maroulis is a honey you will never forget. In the greengrocers of the island you will find extremely tasty figs in season, and in the butchers local sheep and goats of incomparable taste and sometimes also perfect Amorgian crab.

Naxos: Its cheeses are one and the same
Naxos is famous for its fine cheeses, so save room for plenty of cheeses from the island’s well-known cheeses such as Babounis, Koufopoulos, Syneterismos, Pittaras, but also male, aged gravies, female cheeses, sour cheeses from shepherds and small producers of mountainous Naxos that are sold in the markets and grocery stores of the island. Especially in the Tziblakis store you will find extremely rare aging cheeses. This shop is a veritable folklore museum, and a visit there is mandatory, because in addition to cheeses you will also find locally produced olives, pulses, honeys, jams, capers, baskets and ceramics. You will find ham, the local sausage, in some butcher shops on the island, such as in Vasilaraki and Amorgino. If you are traveling by car, load a bag of potatoes in the trunk. You are in the most famous potato place in Greece. It is also worth saving space for the herbs and fruits grown by Kostantis Houzouris at Mikri Farma in Naxos. A real case study, with 87 different varieties of tomato, 204 varieties of pepper, 18 types of eggplant, and correspondingly many different varieties of beans, pumpkins, cereals for flour, melons, watermelons, etc., some processed into jams and pickles , in very small productions, all exclusively from traditional varieties from around the world.
