On Pão de Queijo Day, get to know Trem Doido, which even makes hot dogs with

One of the national passions, salty obligatory in the greenhouses of coffee shops, bakeries and snack bars, cheese bread has a day to call its own —August 17th, more specifically this Wednesday.

Although it is part of the menu of any bakery or pé-sujo, the recipe was elevated to the status of protagonist in the menu of Trem Doido, in the Cerqueira César neighborhood, in the west of São Paulo.

The menu features sandwiches with assorted fillings. But with a detail: instead of using French bread or brioche, the address serves the snacks in cheese breads.

The place occupies a brick house, with a glazed facade to the street. To serve as the basis for the combinations, the cheese bread appears in a slightly larger size than those found in paddocks. In addition, the discs dispense with the soft core of the traditional recipe and appear thinner and drier.

There, salty foods inspire even more unusual creations, such as the hot dog, which has sausage, ketchup, mustard and potato sticks inside the baguette-shaped cheese bread. Served especially during the month of August, the sandwich costs R$26.90. You can also order a combo with potatoes or fried polenta for R$ 34.90 — an option valid, by the way, for all the sandwiches in the place.

Of the fixed recipes, there are hamburger versions. The one with bacon, for example, costs R$ 29.90. The one with breaded chicken, cheese and pickles costs R$ 26.90. Vegetarians can choose from fillings like falafel, shredded jackfruit or caprese. Each of them costs R$ 28.90.

But there are also more conventional options, such as the mini-sized portion of savory snacks, for R$9.90 with six units. There are even desserts. The savory one with dulce de leche costs R$11 and arrives at the table sprinkled with cinnamon.

Despite being the star, the cheese bread is not the only item on the menu. There is also space for snacks such as rice balls (R$ 24.90 with nine units) or nuggets (R$ 19.90 also with nine units).

The drinks section is democratic and caters both to those who enjoy eating the pão de queijo with coffee (R$6), to those who want to enjoy a happy hour with beers in a long neck bottle (R$13.50) and to people who like to combine hamburgers and milkshakes. In this area, there is even a version with cachaça, for R$ 17.90.
