EKAV rescuers rushed to the scene but it was already too late to offer any help to the unfortunate man as he had already met a tragic death.
The Fire, Emergency Services and Police in Heraklion have been alerted when a man was crushed by a tree and killed
According to information from cretapost, everything happened shortly after 6:00 in the afternoon on Dimokratis avenue, at the height of the Cretan oven, just before the First Cemetery of Heraklion when the tree fell on the unfortunate 50-year-old while he was parked at the traffic light.
As can be clearly seen in the photos of cretapost, this is a huge tree which closes both streams of Dimokratis Avenue, while the pavement slabs were also broken by the uprooting.
It is noted that miraculously we did not mourn more victims as this is a particularly busy spot with enough people walking daily on the sidewalks of the avenue.
There are also 3 vehicles of the Heraklion Fire Service with 14 firefighters as well as men from the 3rd EMAK of Heraklion. The firefighters cut the tree in order to free the unfortunate man and to be able to remove him from the roadway.
EKAV rescuers rushed to the scene but it was already too late to offer any help to the unfortunate man as he had already met a tragic death.
The Traffic Police is conducting an investigation into the circumstances under which the incident occurred.
