Speaking to SKAI, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum denied that migrants are reacting to their relocation, stating that only a minority of five to ten people are protesting
Five arrests were made by the police for the minor incidents that occurred earlier in the migrant accommodation camp of Eleonas. A small group of people was obstructing the cleaning operations of the structure.
As reported to SKAI 100.3, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum Notis Mitarakis the immigrants do not react to their relocation, adding that only a minority of five to ten people protest the closure of the structure.
The minister announced that 18,000 immigrants are currently being hosted in our country in accommodation facilities from 92,000 in 2020. He also noted that out of the 121 structures that existed, 34 are now operating across the country.
Referring to the refugee flows he said that “last year we had the lowest number of arrivals in the last decade 8,500 immigrants”. This year is expected to be the second lowest year of the decade in immigration flows with 7,000 immigrants added Mr. Mitarakis.
It is noted that the Eleonas accommodation camp was attacked by strong police forces shortly before 5 am on Thursday. in the context of the previous decision to close the structure, so that the double redevelopment can proceed.
The government, through the Minister of Immigration and Asylum and the municipal authority through him Kostas Bakoyannis, they insist on closing the structure, on the matter however there were reactions from a part of the opposition in the municipality.
