It is estimated that in less than 1 month the new metro stops at Maniatika, the Municipal Theater and the Port will be operational, offering a substantial solution to the problem of commuting not only to Athens, but also to the airport, a distance for which only 50 minutes will suffice. The expectations are that there will also be a total upgrade of the areas around the three stops, as already happened in Korydallos which was connected to line 3.
Test routes of Line 3 have already started. On August 27-28 the metro stations “Nikaia”, “Korydallos” and “Agia Varvara” will remain closed and Line 3 will operate in the section “Airport – Agia Marina”
It is estimated that in addition 132,000 citizens will move on line 3, with a 7.6 km long tunnel with 6 new modern stations Agia Varvara, Korydallos, Nikaia, Maniatika, Piraeus and Municipal Theater.
The new line will connect the port of Piraeus with Eleftherios Venizelos Airport in less than 1 hour, and will relieve Piraeus from traffic, 23,000 fewer cars on the roads daily, which means 120 tons of carbon dioxide less. The metro station will be located near the electric and bus stops.
“In general, Piraeus has gone through a big change. With the people who will take the subway and the cafes, the shops will also work” a businessman told SKAI.
