The storms have started in Macedonia – The Region is on alert for bad weather

Storms began to manifest in the Vasilika Thessaloniki, in mountainous Halkidiki, locally in Kassandra and Sithoniaas well as in the wider area of ​​Kilkis, according to the data recorded at this time by the Regional Meteorological Center of Macedonia, while according to the forecasts severe weather phenomena are expected to manifest themselves gradually from the west of Central Macedonia.

According to the Emergency Deterioration of Weather Bulletin issued today, Monday, August 22, 2022 by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), deterioration of the weather with heavy rains and storms, which will be accompanied by a high frequency of lightning, hail and thunderstorms, during the phenomena, from strong gusty winds, is forecast from tomorrow Tuesday until Friday. The phenomena will also manifest in hours outside of the classic instability (noon – afternoon) and will affect not only the mainland but also the island country and especially the Aegean. Thessaly, the Sporades, northern Evia, the northern Aegean and Halkidiki will receive the heaviest amounts of rain, mainly on Wednesday and Thursday.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection, has informed the competent government agencies involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness, in order to face directly the effects of the occurrence of intense weather phenomena.

As the head of the Autonomous Civil Protection Department of the Central Macedonia Region told APE-MPE, Charalambos Stergiadis “We are on alertthe Region’s project machinery is ready, as is the register of contractors, in order to intervene wherever we need to”.

At the same time, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection recommends that citizens be particularly careful, taking measures to protect themselves from risks arising from the occurrence of severe weather phenomena.
