At the Presidential Palace, Pope Francis – Meeting with Sakellaropoulou

Pope Francis arrived earlier at the Presidential Palace, where he was welcomed by the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

The Primate of the Roman Catholic Church pays a ceremonial visit to the President of the Republic, in her personal office.

At 12:30, Pope Francis met with the Prime Minister at the Presidential Palace and at 12:45 with representatives of the Authorities, the Local Government and the Diplomatic Corps at the Presidential Palace.

At his reception at 11:10, at the “Eleftherios Venizelos” International Airport, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, on behalf of the government, and four children – a symbol of purity and love, in Greek costumes.

The Primate of the Roman Catholic Church then had a private meeting with the head of Greek diplomacy in an airport hall.

The official welcoming ceremony was attended, among others, by the Catholic Church, the Ambassador of the Vatican to Greece, the President of the Holy Synod of the Catholic Hierarchy of Greece and the Archbishop of the Catholic Athens.

According to information from police sources, more than 3,500 police officers will be available for the implementation of the measures, from all services and especially from the Traffic Police, which is responsible for ensuring the smooth and rapid movement of the Pope during the visits included in his program.
