Fifteen more Experimental and Thematic DIEK in the new year – The specialties

There will now be 15 Experimental and Thematic Public Vocational Training Institutes in total in the new year, with the conversion of another 5 operating Public IEK to Experimental, with a relevant decision signed by the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Niki Kerameos.

With this decision, the following new 5 Experimental IEKs are foreseen:

1. IEK Nicea is converted into Experimental IEK Nicea

2. IEK Veria is transformed into Experimental IEK Veria

3. IEK Komotini is transformed into Experimental IEK Komotini

4. The IEK of Mytilini is converted into an Experimental IEK of Mytilini

5. IEK Kozani is transformed into Experimental IEK Kozani

As stated in a relevant announcement, the Experimental IEK are henceforth units that will aim to support the experimentation and pilot application of innovations in the system of initial vocational training and will contribute to the better design and pilot application of training methods, so that they are cultivated and disseminated the best educational methods, practices and tools across the vocational training system.

It should be noted that the said Experimental IEKs, which will begin their operation in the new training year 2022-2023, are added to the following already operating 5 Experimental and 5 Thematic IEKs:

• Experimental IEK Karditsa

• Experimental IEK Patras

• Experimental IEK Glyfada

• Experimental IEK Thermi

• Experimental IEK Lamia,

• Thematic IEK STEAM Aigaleo (Natural Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)

• Thematic IEK Thessaloniki Health, Social Care and Wellness Services

• Thematic IEK Acharna of Natural Environment, Sports and Recreation

• Thematic Branch of IEK Primary Sector, Product Processing and Sustainable Development in Ioannina with headquarters in I.M. Well

• IEK Didymoteichos Primary Sector, Product Processing and Sustainable Development Thematic Branch based in Soufli.

It is worth noting that the transformation of the Public IEK into Thematic and Experimental IEK was implemented following a recommendation of the Central Council of Vocational Education and Training (K.S.E.K.) and the Central Scientific Committee (C.E.C.) based on criteria extroversion, participation in innovative actions, provision of appropriate infrastructure, as well as the possibility of applying innovations in the professional training system in collaboration with local bodies and university institutions.
