Andros Race: “Velos” achieved its goal – See photos

The group of Takis Mantis – Pavlou Kayali, made up of triangle champions, was the protagonist of the last race of the 55th Andros International Sailing Race and won the prestigious trophy for the second year in a row. The curtain on the historic offshore event, which had the support of the maritime and sailing family, will “fall” tonight, on Naval Club of Greece (20.00), with the Awards Ceremony.

For another year, the shipping family “embraced” him “Andros International Sailing Race” and provided “present” potential through sponsorships while several of its members found themselves as crews on boats. Among the main sponsors of the race were “Polembros Shipping” and “New Shipping Limited”. Supporters of the boats were, among others, Goulandris Bross Hellas (on the Pega boat), A.M. Nomikos (on the Ellinix Farr Away), Equinox Maritime Ltd (on the Spirit Of Galatea), Euroseas (on the Giorgio – Furuno) and also the Lalizas (on three boats: Lavoro 3, Optimum 4, Aether).

On Sunday morning, dozens of residents and visitors of the island were both in the square of the Unknown Sailor and in boats in order to guide the fleet of the race. The start of the 3rd and last sailing race took place in the port of Neipori, Andros. The sailboats sailed past the eastern side of the Cyclades island and with their colorful balloons offered beautiful images to the spectators. The north wind (12-15 miles) helped make for a fast race with strong competition. The sailing race ended at Dysvatos (the strait between Andros and Tinos). All the competitors enjoyed the race and the winner was the “Velos – Eurobank Private Banking” of Takis Mantis – Pavlos Kagialis, which won first place in the event.

“We got off to a very good start and won the Andros race for the 2nd year. It is a special race because it has both a long “arm” and local sailing, which makes it very nice. Once again we were impressed by the hospitality of the organizers and the residents of the island and every year we have a better time. The best sailing teams of Greece took part. Of course, the Andros event is usually attended by the best sailors from all over Greece. The importance of the match can be seen from the big sponsors who support it”, underlined the “bronze” Olympic medalists of Rio Takis Mantis and Pavlos Kayalis.

The Andros International Sailing Race, led by Ioannis V. Goulandris, was held for the first time in 1967. The organizers of the “55th Andros Ioannis V. Goulandris International Sailing Race” are the Nautical Club of Andros and the Nautical Club of Greece. The Awards Ceremony of the 1st and 2nd races took place in a festive atmosphere at the Andros Nautical Club. The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Kostis Hatzidakis was also present at the event.
