In its original twitter post, NATO Land Forces Command wished Turkey a “Happy Victory Day”, referring to the Asia Minor Disaster. The post in question was withdrawn after a strong protest by Athens to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
In a new post to celebrate the day of the Turkish armed forces, the NATO Land Forces Command went ahead, just 24 hours after withdrawing the previous one, in which it congratulated Turkey for the Asia Minor disaster.
“On Tuesday, the Command (LANDCOM) congratulated our ally, Turkey, on National Armed Forces Day. We are grateful that Turkey hosts our base on its soil. We also thank all 30 members of the Alliance for offering them. United we are stronger!”, says the new post of the NATO administration.

In its initial tweet, NATO Land Forces Command wished Turkey a “Happy Victory Day”, noting: “Today is the 100th anniversary of Turkey’s independence. We join with our Turkish allies across NATO and beyond to celebrate their Victory and Turkish Armed Forces Day.”
The post in question provoked the strong reaction of Greece, which proceeded with a strict march of protest to the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg.
