In the estimation that at the moment there is a “community immunity” with regard to the severe disease caused by coronavirus, Mr professor of pulmonology, Nikos Tzanakisspeaking on SKAI TV and the “Today” show.

He added that the “wave” expected in the next period will not cause difficulties for the health system. He warned that although most citizens are protected against serious illness, there are about 300,000 to 500,000 in our country who are vulnerable due to age or health problems and whom we must protect as the apple of our eye.

The professor’s mathematical models show that during the summer, approximately 3 million citizens, “that is, one third of the population of Greece”, were infected with coronavirus.

“Since June 1, we had approximately 1.1 million cases recorded. According to our model, this number corresponds to approximately 3 million infected, i.e. a third of the population of Greece was infected during the summer.” emphasized Mr. Tzanakis.

He added that the news may have now placed the coronavirus 5th and 6th in the news, but the pandemic is here, and attention is needed so that “we can have a good September”.
