“Stop the violence”: Mareva Mitsotaki at the ELAS office against domestic violence

The domestic violence office of the White Tower Police Department was visited by Mareva Mitsotakis during her stay in Thessaloniki, in the context of the 86th International Exhibition. The White Tower Police Department’s Domestic Violence Office was established exactly one year ago, and has handled 286 incidents so far.

It is worth noting that 16 police officers serve in this service, of which 2 are female officers, 6 are investigative officers (3 women) and the remaining 8 are non-investigative officers (2 women).

According to information during the first half of 2022, the Greek Police have dealt with approximately 7,200 complaints of domestic violence throughout the country with the 3 out of 4 perpetrators are men and they usually belong to the close family of the victims. It should be noted that in order to deal with the situation, EL.AS officials have been informed and trained in all police departments, while specific handling instructions have been given to the police officers who will be called upon to deal with an incident of domestic violence.
