In Dion, the place he loved and highlighted, the professor of Archeology and for many years the president of the Board of the Acropolis Museum was buried at noon on Thursday Dimitris Pandermaliswho passed away yesterday, aged 82.

His body arrived at the Holy Church of Agia Paraskevi at 2 in the afternoon and the funeral procession began an hour later, in the presence of the Minister of Culture and Sports Linas Mendonis, the general director of the Acropolis Museum – Professor of Archaeology, Nikos Stampolidis and a crowd of people.

For Dimitris Pantermali, Dion was his retreat. His contribution to the promotion of this great archaeological site was decisive. There, from 1973, he directed the archaeological excavations of the University, turning the excavation into an archaeological and natural park, the first archaeological park created in Greece.

“He was a pioneer in the science of Archaeology, directing the excavations, here in Dion, where he developed an innovative archaeological and natural park. It was then, that he developed his views on how an archaeological site can be understood by the uninitiated visitor. How will the spaces be opened to the public, as places of education and entertainment and in the best case he heard from many of his colleagues, “but what does the man say now”.

Pandermalis brought new, modern ideas to the management of archaeological sites, museums and monuments,” said the Minister of Culture at her funeral, emphasizing that his great work, the vision of his life, was the Acropolis Museum. “He served it from the first moment with all his might. The Acropolis Museum was made thanks to his persistence,” said Ms. Mendoni.
