Karagiannis – Voutsas: The coolest couple of Greek cinema

by

Their roles suited them like a glove, they usually played ordinary characters next door and the audience loved them.

Martha Karagiannis and Costas Voutsas “fixed” themselves in the world’s consciousness as a film couple, like Vougiouklakis – Papamichail and Karezi – Kazakos, after they played together in many musicals and comedies mainly by Dalianidis and Finos Films.

The two of them were effortlessly laughing and were a more “popular” couple but incredibly more… cool. Their roles suited them like a glove, they usually played ordinary characters next door and the audience loved them.

Who does not remember “eternal yours Pepi” and the Constantinopolitan “Iakovo” with his mom’s hazelnuts in “Wedding Night”, 1967?

Her collaboration with Yiannis Dalianidis and Costas Voutsas took off in the film “The Man” (1969), where “Kiki Kopeoglou” has the ambition to become an actress, passing through a thousand waves her good cloth merchant husband “Evtychios”, who he has bought her at home “even an automatic cleaning machine for the pumpkins!”.

Their dance “Geitses… Sto!” from the movie Girls for Kisses 1965 is now a classic moment.

Mary Chronopoulou’s adorable maid “Maria” asks for an autograph from “Kosta Masouros” in the movie “A lady with bouzoukis”, another unforgettable performance by Martha Karagiannis.

As they were one of the most beloved television couples of Greek cinema, the public wanted them together in real life, but both always said that they are not a couple but two very good friends. “With Voutsa we are bound by a true, strong, pure and eternal love” once declared Martha Karagianni, who eventually became maid of honor at his wedding with Aliki Katsavou.
