Personal Assistants will support, with guaranteed pay and insurance, our fellow citizens with disabilities.

The platform has opened for those interested in being employed as Personal Assistants for People with Disabilities. Personal Assistants will support, with guaranteed remuneration and insurance, our fellow citizens with disabilities, within the pilot program of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs “Personal Assistant for People with Disabilities”.

Specifically, as stated in the relevant announcement, those interested can submit their application digitally starting today, Monday, September 26, 2022, at the email address https://prosopikosvoithos.gov.gr. In order to better serve them, a helpdesk will operate for reporting/solving problems and providing instructions, by phone at the numbers 1555 and 210-7000240, but also through the website.

In the Registry of Personal Assistants adults up to 67 years of age who wish to be employed as Personal Assistants are registered. Their registration will be preceded by a criminal record check and the successful completion of a distance learning program, provided by the ministry free of charge.

The Personal Assistants, after joining the Register, will be chosen by our fellow citizens with disabilities (people with motor, mental and/or developmental or mental disabilities and people with sensory disabilities), to support them in enhancing their independent living and their inclusion in society. This support will be provided on the basis of the individual needs and living conditions of the beneficiaries with disabilities and, in accordance with their individual choices and interests, indicatively in terms of the following: a) Activities of daily living, such as feeding, clothing, personal hygiene, b) work and studies c) participation in leisure activities and d) activities of participation in social life.

It is clarified that the beneficiaries of our fellow citizens with disabilities, who are awarded, within the framework of the program, hours of personal assistance, will have access to the Register of Personal Assistants and their profile for the purpose of searching, contacting and selecting one or more Personal Assistants, in accordance with the their needs. They will choose between either (a) hourly personal assistance from one or more Personal Assistants or (b) personal assistance from a live-in Personal Assistant.

Following this, the disabled persons beneficiaries will enter into private agreement with their Personal Assistants.

The compensation of the Personal Assistant amounts to six euros gross per hour of providing personal assistance. In the case of providing personal assistance in cohabitation, the compensation of the entitled Personal Assistant amounts to 1,200 euros gross per month and includes rest days.

The payment of the money will be made by the Organization of Welfare Allowances and Social Solidarity (OPEKA) on a monthly basis, to a bank account declared by the Personal Assistants.

The project is implemented, within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”, with the funding of the European Union-NextGenerationEU.

The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, responsible for Welfare and Social Solidarity issues, Domna Michailidou, said: “We are one step closer to the independent living of our fellow citizens with disabilities. Finally, for the first time, the Personal Assistant service is starting in our country. We have successfully completed the application process for our fellow citizens with disabilities and, as of today, the platform has opened so that anyone wishing to join the Personal Assistant Register can submit their application. Soon, our first 1,000 fellow citizens with disabilities in Attica will have their own Personal Assistant, while, staying true to our commitments, in 2024 the service will be expanded nationwide. As a State, we practically improve the quality of life and the dignified living of everyone, especially those who are most in need. We don’t leave anyone behind.”
