Three gangs had a base in Polytechnic University – They robbed students and trafficked drugs

The defendants “checked” who entered the old student residences, robbed students and threatened them with weapons – a relevant complaint had also been made by the rector of the Polytechnic.

During yesterday’s operation, the Hellenic Police made 32 arrests in total, of members of three gangs, who committed armed robberies and trafficked drugs, with their base at the student residences of Zografou University of Technology.

According to a relevant information that was completed a little while ago at the Ministry of Citizen Protection, the three gangs committed at least 29 robberies and thefts as well as a number of drug trafficking transactions.

As it was emphasized, the defendants had reached the point of checking the persons entering the old student residences of the Polytechnic University, while they had threatened a student with a gun. At the same time, according to ELAS, they had also committed robberies against students.

Nine of the accused and occasionally twelve of their accomplices resided permanently in the specific area, while a relevant complaint had been made by the rector of the Polytechnic regarding what was happening in the Polytechnic.

According to ELAS, as highlighted, the gangs have been operating since 2019.

Finally, with regard to the probationary police officer who was arrested, as mentioned, she was giving information to the accused about when police operations would take place in Polytechnic University.
