With the opening of the “Maniatika”, “Piraeus” and “Municipal Theater” stations a daily increase in total passenger traffic is predicted in the metro network by 132,000 passengers, reducing daily, both the traffic of the I.X. vehicles by 23,000, as well as carbon dioxide emissions by 120 tons. With the extension of the metro network by 3.2 km, line 3 “Municipal Theater – Doukissis Plakentias – Airport” now has 27 stations.
Redesign of bus lines
The next day, Tuesday, October 11, the redesign of bus lines in the wider area of Piraeus will come into effect, aiming at the interoperability of the road transport network with the new metro line 3 stations. This redesign comes in continuation of the previous successful interventions, in which OASA proceeded when the first three stations of the metro extension in Piraeus (Agia Varvara, Korydallos, Nikaia) were put into operation.
The frequency of the routes in the section Municipal theater – Doukissis Placentias during peak hours (07.30-11.00 & 13:30 – 17:30) remains at 4′ and at night hours (22:00 – 00:20) it is reduced to 9′ out of 10 ΄. In the Airport – Municipal theater section, the frequency is set at 36′.
