Recently, the amateur gardener cut a pumpkin weighing over 50 kg from his garden, which, as can be seen in the photo, he barely managed to hold.

A pumpkin-giga, which weighs over 50 kg, was grown by Stelios Tzitzirikas, in his garden, in Arnea Halkidiki, while as he notes in GRTimes, last year’s harvest was even more impressive, with the scales exceeding… 60 kilos.

The profession of a police officer may not be one of the most pleasant, as it is usually accompanied by difficult situations, however, the police officer, Stelios Tzitzirikas, has found an alternative way to escape from his demanding everyday life! He took soil, seeds and gardening tools and created a “magical” garden, in his house in Arnea Halkidiki, in which grow giant pumpkins, straight out of fairy tales.

“You can’t hug them”

Recently, the amateur gardener cut a pumpkin weighing over 50 kg from his garden, which, as can be seen in the photo, he barely managed to hold.

As Mr. Tzitzirikas says speaking to GRTimes, “every year at this time, our pumpkins come out, in similar sizes. The one we took out the other day exceeded 50 kilos, but we have also taken out bigger ones. Last year we cut a pumpkin over 60 kilos. We’ve occasionally put out pumpkins that you can’t hug.”

The “secret ingredients” in growing mammoth pumpkins

Asked what is the secret ingredient in the cultivation of pumpkins, the policeman confides that “it is a local variety of the mountainous Halkidiki. We plant old seeds and cultivate them with potting soil. I believe that the most important factor is the manure we have from the hens, but also the care of the vegetable, as the pumpkin needs a lot of watering.”

“Gardening is my psychotherapy”

The policeman, in addition to being an amateur gardener, is also the father of three children, while as he points out to GRTimes “the profession is difficult, we experience unpleasant incidents every day and gardening is, I would say, my psychotherapy, a hobby that relaxes me and brings me joy in everyday life” .

Kiss the whole pumpkin pie village!

Finally, as Mr. Tzitzirikas made known, from the giant pumpkin that was cut the other day, not even the shell was left.

“My mother, who is a very good cook, cooks all the pumpkins we grow, she makes excellent pumpkin pie and velouté soup. There is nothing left of the pumpkin now. We shared it throughout the village! Let’s be strong and next year we hope to make an even bigger one” he said.
