In the vision of Greek tourism to extend the tourist season, with a particular emphasis on the effort to attract pensioners from abroad during the cold months, a publication of the Observer refers.

“Our doors are open for 12 months, our friends in northern Europe should know that. They should come here for the winter,” Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias told the British newspaper.

As reported, the Greek government will launch within days a new advertising campaign costing 20 million euros, which will be aimed at retired Europeans.

Posters to be put up in London and other capitals across the continent will depict, among other things, a relatively elderly couple enjoying a glass of wine on a boat and will ask would-be visitors “Want to feel 20 again?”, with accompanying text to state: “With warm winter temperatures of up to 20C, Greece is the place to be”

The publication states that Mr. Kikilias visited European capitals in September to pass the Greek message in meetings with directors of pension funds, travel federations, tour operators and airlines.

“There will be pockets connected by direct flights with hotels and restaurants prepared to stay open,” says the Greek minister, adding: “What we are saying is that it might be less expensive to turn off the heating back at home and come here It is so simple”.

The Observer’s correspondent in Athens points to the “unexpectedly” strong tourism year for Greece this year, with revenues and arrivals expected to exceed the respective records of 2019, with 33.1 million visitors and more than €18 billion in revenue.

The newspaper comments that it is the first time that Greece has made a concerted attempt to present itself as a winter destination, following the successful example of Spain.

In addition to pensioners, the campaign is also aimed at so-called digital nomads and parents with pre-school children.
