Greece welcomes Odessa’s request to UNESCO

It is recalled that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, during his second visit to Odessa, on July 12, 2022, expressed the active support of our country for this candidacy

The deposition, from Authorities of Odessa in the services of UNESCOof the nomination file for the inclusion of the historic center of Odessa in the UNESCO World Heritage List, Greece welcomes, with a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Also, it is reported that Greece supports this specific candidacy, which was pointed out by the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, in his speech addressing the UNESCO Executive Board on October 11, 2022.

Furthermore, in the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is underlined that Odessa is of particular importance for Greece, given that it is inextricably linked to the history of our country and to the Greek diaspora of Ukraine.

It is recalled that the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, during his second visit to Odessa, on July 12, 2022, expressed our country’s active support for this candidacy. At the same time, he attended the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Consulate General of Greece in Odesa and the State Archives of the Odesa Region for the digitization of archives of Greek interest with Greek funding.
