The Kalavryta ski center is being upgraded and modernized
The Kalavryta ski center is being upgraded and modernized, with the aim of increasing the number of visitors, with positive results for the local economy and the further development of the region.
“The upgrading and modernization of the facilities of the Kalavryton ski center, which is a municipal enterprise, is a complex project and the largest that has been implemented in a ski center in recent years,” stressed the director of the Kalavryton ski center, Alexis Agrios, saying that “now we are at the final stage of all procedures.”
The entire project file has gone to the Court of Auditors and “we are waiting for the audit process to be completed so that the contract can be signed and the procedures can begin.”
As Alexis Agrios underlines at this point, “we hope that if all the procedures are completed in the time we expect, then at the end of the coming winter season, i.e. in April 2023, the works on the ski center will begin”.
Regarding the projects that will be implemented in the ski center of Kalavryta, Alexis Agrios describes to APE – BEE:
“The modern equipment will include the replacement of the two central elevators of the ski resort, namely “Achillea” and “Styga”.
In particular, ‘Achilleas’ will become a ten-seater detachable cabin for the transport of visitors and skiers from the base to the middle of the ski resort, while ‘Styga’ will become a six-seater detachable chair for the transport from the middle to the top of the ski resort. This means that the transport capacity of these two central elevators is quadrupled, while the transport time is reduced to approximately 80%.
For example, now the ‘Styga’ takes 16-17 minutes to climb from the middle to the top of the ski, while after the modernization it will take only five minutes.”
Also, the director of the ski resort tells APE – BPE that “at the moment each lift can serve around 800 to 1,000 people per hour, while after the upgrade more than 2,000 people will be served by each lift, resulting in an increase the passes that each skier will make per hour”.
Furthermore, according to Alexis Agrios, “the project also includes the creation of a new substation, which will provide energy for the operation of all modern facilities, while a generator will also be installed, so that the operation does not stop in the event of a power cut ».
At the same time, he adds that “one will be created new chalet in the middle of the ski center, which will have perimeter balconies with a panoramic view of the entire Corinthian Gulf, while some other works will be done, for the formation of the faithful and the installation of snow fences, so that we can contain the snow”.
