The unlucky man was driving his car when it was swept away by the rushing waters of the rain, while his passenger was thrown out of the vehicle as the windshield broke and the torrent sent her into the stormy sea.

Homes and businesses were submerged in the mud, while 25 cars ended up in the Sea.

The northern coastal front 18 km west of Heraklion, Agia Pelagia, Lygaria, Paleokastro, was drowned by the rushing waters.

In Agia Pelagia, a 50-year-old man, father of two children was found dead in this car that was swept away by the rapids and wedged under another vehicle in the flood channel.

The conditions were so adverse that it took 1.5 hours for the EKAV rescuers to reach the spot and collect the body of the unfortunate man.

Rescue crews are working under adverse conditions to find the missing or other trapped people.

The landscape in Agia Pelagia is nightmarish. Cars have been nailed to houses, others are almost balanced in the air. Completely destroyed by the ferocity of the conflict. Cars were swept into the sea and in Lygaria. There a woman was rescued at the last moment from her vehicle. The same picture in Paleokastro, which was severely battered by bad weather. Here too the rushing waters swept vehicles to the beach throwing them onto the rocks.

Due to the landslides and torrents, the traffic on the National Road at the height of Agia Pelagia, Achlada and Fodele was interrupted, while there are power outages in many areas of Malevizio.

With the bad weather moving east, the residents of Lasithi prefecture received a warning from 112 to avoid unnecessary movements.

An unprecedented downpour has already hit Sitia. Over 350 millimeters of water fell within three hours. Roads have become rivers, cars have washed away blocking roads.
