Through a recorded video, President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) said this Monday morning (1st) during COP26, that Brazil “has always been part of the solution, not the problem” in the fight against climate change.
The speech, previously recorded, was presented during a side event dedicated to Brazil at the climate convention in Glasgow (Scotland).
The leaders’ meeting, which opened on Sunday (31), was marked this Monday by speeches on the urgency of the climate crisis.
Out of the list of more than 100 world leaders who spoke at the opening of COP26, Bolsonaro is in Padua, Italy, after having participated in the G20 summit.
The president claimed “schedule reason” for having missed the Climate Conference. The vice president, Hamilton Mourão, coordinator of the National Council for the Legal Amazon, also did not travel to Glasgow.
In the speech, Bolsonaro mentioned the National Program for Green Growth, launched last week, which has one of the main objectives, according to the president, the generation of “green jobs”.
The president ended the video with a warning that he attributed the role of announcing the country’s goals in combating climate change to Environment Minister Joaquim Leite.
