The important art historian Haris Kambouridis passed away today at the age of 72, after an unequal battle he lost his battle with cancer.
The Board of Directors of ESIEA “with great sadness says goodbye to the unforgettable Haris Kambouridis and expresses its deepest condolences to his brother and his partner”.
His funeral will take place in a close family circle and according to his wish.

Haris Kambouridis was born in 1950 in Komotini. He studied Byzantine and Modern Greek Culture at the Philosophy School of Aristotle University and Communication Studies and History of Modern Art at Aachen Hochschule. His career in journalism began in 1975, with his collaboration with the newspaper “Thessaloniki” as an art critic. At the same time, he is the founder and director of the magazine “Kodikas” as well as its successor in 1979 “Code”. From 1980 to 1984 he works as a consultant or speaker in the series “PARASKINIO” and “PERISCOPIO” (ERT1-2). From 1985 to 1988 he cooperates with the 3rd Program of the Hellenic Radio, while in 1990 with ERT1 and in the two years 1990-1991 with the 1st Program. He also had collaborations for many years with the magazines “ANTI”, “ZYGOS”, “TETARTO”, “IKASTIKA”, “ARTMAGAZINE” and “RAM”. From 1985 until his retirement, he was an art critic for the newspaper “TA NEA”.
At the same time, Haris Kambouridis was an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Aristotle University as well as a scientific researcher at the Ministry of Research, the Historical Archive of the Deputy Ministry of Youth, the University of AACHEN, the Department of Industrial Aesthetics of the Technical University of Thessaloniki, the Department of Philosophy of the same university, the Educational Foundation of Agricultural Bank etc.
Finally, he was a member of the “ACADEMIA SCIENTIARUM ET ARTIUM EUROPAEA” (Salzburg), the Board of Directors. the Council of Cultural Networks of the Council of Europe, the Artistic Committee of the National Gallery and many other committees in Greece and abroad.
“Haris Kambouridis, despite his brilliant career, remained simple, modest and presentable throughout his life. His loss spreads sorrow among his friends and associates.
