Thirteen people, most of them medical visitors but also pharmaceutical company executives, were arrested following an operation by the ELAS Internal Affairs Service for a case related to doctors’ bribes and illegal prescriptions of drugs, mainly for pathological and cardiac diseases.
According to sources of APE-MPE, a months-long investigation of the prosecuting authorities preceded, while the lifting of telephone privacy of the persons involved was also required. The voluminous case file includes more than 100 people and among them, according to the same sources, are doctors and pharmacists, while the amount of the alleged fraud seems to amount to hundreds of thousands of euros.
As it became known, in the last 24 hours the “incorruptibles” of ELAS proceeded to arrests in Athens, Thessaloniki and other cities.
The total of 13 arrested were brought before the Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance of Thessaloniki, who prosecuted them for criminal organization, fraud, false testimony, bribery and extortion against the public and private sector, false medical certificates, medical certificates, etc. .
All of them were referred before the 2nd Special Investigator of Thessaloniki, from whom they were given a deadline to apologize on Wednesday, and until then they remain in custody.
