The bad weather in Attica and the rest of the country started early on Saturday morning, with strong winds and rains.

Citizens are advised to be careful, as strong winds cause trees to fall, rocks and floods. The Civil Protection Mechanism is on standby to deal with the effects of bad weather.

In the northern areas there has been snowfall, while in the coastal areas the sea has come out on the sidewalks. At the same time, in some areas in the Peloponnese, Epirus and Thessaly, the rivers have “swelled”.

Which areas will be affected by the bad weather in the coming hours?

From Saturday night, the effects will gradually weaken, while from Sunday the picture will be better.

More specifically, on Sunday, local rains and sporadic thunderstorms will occur, mainly in the Western, Southern and Eastern Aegean, and will gradually weaken. The winds will blow West – Southwest to Northwest 5 to 7 Beaufort. The temperature will drop slightly in the Northwest.

On Monday the effects will be limited to East and South and the winds will blow West – Northwest 5 to 7 Beaufort. The temperature will fall.

The areas that will be hardest hit by the bad weather are: Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese, the Cyclades and Crete.

Civil Protection Instructions for Bad Weather

• Take refuge in a building or car and do not leave the safe area until they are sure that the storm has passed.

• To be informed about the weather and the condition of the road network
• Have anti-skid chains and a tank full of fuel in their vehicle
• Travel, if necessary, preferably during the day, preferring the main roads

• Change their travel schedule to avoid the onslaught of weather

If moving on foot:

• Wear with multiple layers of light clothing instead of heavy clothing and wear appropriate footwear to avoid injuries due to slipperiness.
