by

“They threatened us that ‘we will tear your arms and legs apart, we will grind you to dust, so that you will not dare to set foot in our country again'” – The Shock Testimonies

Every story of refugees and immigrants who arrived in our country is special. However, they all have one thing in common. Tthe abject and inhumane treatment by the traffickers who undertook to transport them from Turkey to Greece.

If the images of the 92 naked migrants shocked, then it seems that we do not know the slightest about the real picture, the torture and beatings that refugees and migrants suffer on their journey to the West… For their traumatic experiences, for the miserable treatment who suffered, spoke to SKAI and Yiannis Souliotis.

The shock testimonies

23 YEAR OLD AFGHAN
Former Armed Forces Officer:

“Consider that 12 times we tried to cross and 12 times we were turned back (by the Turks) to me personally the Turks, the army and the authorities treated me very brutally and harshly, they hit me with the barrel of the gun. They threatened us that “we will tear apart your hands and feet, we will make you dust, so that you will not dare to set foot in our homeland again”.

Shortly after their arrival in Greece, as soon as they feel safe, the immigrants tell in black colors to the SKAI camera what they went through… They talk about gangs…

37 YEAR OLD IRANIAN:

“Traffickers are a gang, a spiral, they are never one, one delivers you to another, the one who took us from Iran and took us to Istanbul, he delivered us to another partner of his.”

Even when they cross the border with Greece, if they don’t pay, they are at risk…

MOHAMED
IMMIGRANT FROM PALESTINE:

“As soon as we arrived in Thessaloniki, I was with a Syrian and an Iraqi (…) I had given the smugglers 3,000 euros and they were asking me for an additional 3,000 euros to let me leave. They held me captive for 9 to 10 days until I gave them the money.”

Common admission of all those who arrive in Greece, that the Turkish police are absent in the entire area of Evros…

37 YEAR OLD IRANIAN:

“From Iran we crossed by truck to Turkey, we spent one night in Istanbul and the next morning we went to Adrianople. From Edirne we took a taxi to take us to a forest. At night we slept outside. We spent the night next to a river and the trafficker who would help us cross to Athens woke us up and put us in a boat so we could cross across. There was Turkish police but they didn’t deal with us.”

A well-established industry that caters to all who are willing to risk their lives on a junk ship to Italy…

IMMIGRANT FROM LEBANON:

“As we agreed with the traffickers, the agreement was from Lebanon, our final destination was to reach Italy. The truth is that you cannot contact the traffickers. You don’t see them. They tell you coded specific things so that the journey is complete. And you know in Lebanon how difficult the situations are. They had arranged a better life for us. A better future for us and our children.”
