A large smuggling ring for migrants and drugs was dismantled – Twelve arrests

A large criminal network, structured in three subgroups, whose members trafficked migrants to and from Greece, as well as drugs in the greater area of ​​downtown Athens, was dismantled by the Athens Security Sub-Directorate.

It is noted that a case was filed against a total of 31 people (27 foreigners and 4 Greeks) for the occasional offenses of criminal organization, forgery and forgery of certificates in conspiracy and in continuation and violations of the legislation on the prevention and suppression of money laundering by criminal activities, addictive substances, as well as the Immigration and Social Integration Code.

During a large-scale police operation, which took place on December 8 and 9, 2021, 12 members of the organization were arrested, while 6 more are already temporarily detained.

The police investigation so far has identified the illegal trafficking of many foreigners, as well as many cases of drug trafficking.

During the operation to dismantle the criminal network, 16 house searches were carried out in the presence of court officials, 1 in a shop and 1 in a travel agency, while thirty-five cars were found and confiscated, including 32 of which were embezzled and returned to the owners. companies, the amount of 57,075 euros, a number of digital matrices for preparing forged documents and digitally stored travel documents of third parties, 980 grams of cannabis, 80 passports and IDs, either obviously forged, or declared as stolen – lost and 39 lost.

The financial benefit of the organization from its full activity is estimated at 900,000 euros, according to the estimate of ELAS.

The arrested were taken to the Athens Public Prosecutor’s Office, while the police investigation continues to locate and arrest other members of the ring.
